Overview
Apart from research and development, the SMRI provides a range of services to support its members, including analyses of sugar and liquid streams in its SANAS accredited laboratory, consulting to assist with solving factory problems, weekly and monthly factory performance figures for benchmarking purposes, development of new instruments and analytical techniques, highly regarded training courses for factory and associated staff, including laboratory analysts, and auditing of laboratories and factory processes. These services are available to members only, and are managed by the Factory Support Division.
The SMRI also houses an extensive library of publications, consisting of SMRI reports, conference proceedings, sugar and other industry journals and a large book collection. Many of the reports and proceedings are available on the SMRI's on-line knowledge base, which is searchable by registered members. The publication section is part of the Knowledge Management function, overseen by Steve Davis.
