Sugar Technology Consulting Services
The SMRI specialises in both fundamental and applied research into all aspects of cane and sugar processing.
Goals are to optimise the performance of current unit operations and develop new efficient and cost effective methods to recover sucrose from cane. Detailed integrated mass energy and colour balances for both raw houses and refineries have been developed and are used extensively.
The SMRI consulting work includes:
Inversion loss investigations in both evaporator stations and boiling houses
Undetermined loss studies
Milling and extraction investigations and "trouble shooting", including techniques such as data logging and, tracer tests for diffusers, clarifiers, etc.
Energy utilisation and optimisation
Technical audits for raw houses and refineries and process optimisation (desktop and on-site audits)
Independent evaluations of equipment on behalf of mills and suppliers
Investigations into particular aspects of sugar technology/processing
Literature reviews and searches
The
SMRI also makes use of Associate Consultants for specific expertise or
services that the SMRI cannot routinely provide. The Associates are
usually former Technical Executives or experienced process or design
engineers.
